Hastwell & Lightfoot [McLaren Vale SA], Shiraz 2017

The team from Hastwell & Lightfoot has released a duo of reds from their "re-vitalised" old vines from their McLaren Vale vineyards. The back story to this re-vitalisation is quirkily interesting.
The florid pumpkin / orange label with bold black H & L lettering will find visually prominent & eye-catching attention on shop shelves.
The wine itself, mouth-filling, smooth & well integrated delivers a punch of primary varietal aromas and flavours. This is aided and abetted by plucky oak tannins and a chest-thumping 14% Alc.
Pepper, mocha, spice, and vanilla high notes deliver a fulsome palate-pleasing journey
This well-massaged 20117 Shiraz is eminently quaffable now and will continue to be enjoyable for a few years yet.
Our bottle was well-matched to our dinner of rump steak and Parisian mash
